dead_salmonThe Campbell Heights Industrial Park development, which has been labelled as "the worst development I have ever seen" by environmentalists from the Suzuki Foundation, is poised to expand at the expense of some great riding trails and forest east of the current warehouse jungle. Besides eliminating acres of forest and singletrack, this development  drained the once popular Latimer Lake destroying this local fishing hole and allowed silt runoff to contaminate the Little Campbell River, a strategic Coho salmon spawning ground. The Fraser Valley Conservation Coalition has petitioned the Auditor General of Canada to look into these and other concerns. (link here)

This is where YOU come in....If the public does not voice its opinion in strong terms this development will devour what remaining singletrack still exists in the area. Email , fax the comment sheet, or write city councillors and/or sign the petition at South Surrey Cycles. (campbell heights open house comment sheet)

The current industrial park is less than 1/4 built out so there is no need to destroy any more greenspace. SORCE, and the Save Stokes Pit group tried to encourage the City to save this entire area as a recreational facility back in 2003 to no avail.  This industrial park defied the GVRD (now Metro Vancouver) Livable Region plan for industrial use locations, is far removed from transit, and to make matters worse this City land was sold off to developers at $35,000 an acre!  The original plan included a promise to retain the greenspace corridors and SORCE offerred to help assist in the maintenance and development of multiuse trails in the area. In fact here is a copy of a reponse to our club's request. response_from_city
